EXCEPTIONAL OFFERINGS FROM SANDZEN, WESTON, SAYRE & SHORE AMONG THE HEADLINERS AT CLARS FINE ART SALE

On Sunday, March 17th, Clars Fine Art Sale will bring to market an impressive offering of important yet diverse fine art. Following their record-breaking February sale, the March Fine Art offerings follow-up nicely with works from names including Edward Weston, Birger Sandzen and Henrietta Shore.
This sale will be lead by several important works by American artists. “Mountain Sunset,” (PHOTO 1) a vibrant oil painting by Birger Sandzen (1871-1954), will be one of two offerings from this artist estimated at $10,000 to $15,000 each. A painting by Henrietta Shore (Californian, 1880-1963) titled, "The Blue Slipper" leads the way for several California works at $7,000 to $9,000. Landscapes by Fred Grayson Sayre (Californian, 1879-1939) titled, "Desert Palms," and one by Sam Hyde Harris (Californian, 1889-1977) titled, “Desert Light,” (PHOTO 2) are both being offered at $6,000 to $8,000 each.
In the International category, a very rare painting titled, "Poisson," (PHOTO 3) by the Greek artist Nonda (1922-2005), will be offered for $10,000 to $20,000. A charming portrait of a “Woman in Blue” by Vietnamese/French artist, Vu Cao Dam (1908-2000), is estimated at $4,000 to $6,000. Then traveling across the world to India, an intensely vibrant portrait by Indian artist, Thota Vaikuntam (b.1942), is being offered at $3,000-5,000.
Photography offerings will include spectacular gelatin silver prints by George Hoyningen-Huene (American/Russian, 1900-1968) titled, “Divers (Horst with Model), Paris (1930),”(PHOTO 4) and Horst P. Horst’s (American/German, 1906-1999), ”Lisa on Silk, New York (1940).” Both of these offerings are estimated at $7,000 to $9,000. Another lovely photograph, a gelatin silver print by Edward Weston (American, 1886-1958) titled, “Nude (Charis on Dunes) 1936,” (PHOTO 5) will be offered for $4,000 to $6,000. A portrait of Gonzo Journalist, Hunter S. Thompson, by Annie Leibovitz (American, b. 1949), will be offered for $3,000 to $5,000
Some fine European art will also highlight Clars’ sale in March with a charming watercolor by Alfred De Musset (French, c.1810-c.1859) titled, “Portrait of a Lady,” which is estimated at for $4,000 to $6,000. In addition, a vibrant piece by Italian artist, Nicola Simbari (1927-2012) titled, "Roman Interior," is estimated to achieve $4,000 to $6,000.
Sculpture completes the art to be offered with many Classical European pieces deaccessioned from the University of Santa Barbara Museum. A dramatic bronze by Karoly Fulop (French/American, 1893-1963) titled, "Ceremony," is estimated at $5,000 to $7,000. Lastly, for those who have a passion for Contemporary sculpture, a sleek, aluminum piece by Clive Barker (British/American, b. 1940) titled, "Mickey Mouse," (PHOTO 6) will be for sale on March 17th for $4,000 to $6,000.
