David Dorfman Dance announces the world premiere of A(Way) Out of My Body at Connecticut College’s onStage Guest Artist Series February 7 & 8. The premiere, which represents a new era for the dance company as it enters its 4th decade of making dances, uses “out of body” experience as a metaphor for our times and our body politic. The dancers propel themselves through space and time, attempting to pass the barrier of reality and personal plight into the realm of positivity and growth. This collective story of searching for personal “truths” among fantastical sensations is seen through breath-taking lighting and visual design by the brilliant theater maker Andrew Schneider, highlighting the otherworldly-ness of our dreams, desires, our every day, and new worlds awaiting us. The performances feature a four piece band performing music written especially for the piece. The Friday, February 7 performance is followed by a Q&A. Saturday evening’s performance features a “Premiere After-Party” with an additional ticket charge benefiting the Connecticut dance company. Details of the party will follow with tickets available on the Company’s website. A Fall 2020 New York City premiere follows this Connecticut premiere.
Choreographer and Dancer David Dorfman received his MFA from Connecticut College in 1981 and returned as Professor in 2004, with David Dorfman Dance becoming the school’s Company-in-Residence in 2007.
