HENRI LEBASQUE (French, 1865–1937) Nu Assise sur canapé pres de la fenetre, 1934-35 Oil on canvas 21 5/16 x 25 5/8 in. (54.1 x 65.1 cm) Signed lower right: Lebasque

Anderson Galleries, Beverly Hills, is pleased to present a special selection of works by Henri Lebasque, Henri Le Sidaner and Gustave Loiseau at the gallery through the month of December. These works have been acquired exclusively from private collections and have not been offered for sale in recent memory.

Henri Lebasque's Nu Assise sur canapé pres de la fenetre, 1934-35 features a nude model, bathed in light and seated before an open window. Lebasque was a friend and neighbor of Matisse in Caanes and they often shared models. The woman appears to be examining the sole of her foot to discover a thorn, an ingenious solution to giving the subject an activity to enliven the composition without introducing a prop such as a book or mirror which could compromise the simplicity of the compostition. The bed and and floor are alive with the colorful and exuberant textiles Lebasque so often included in his very best interiors._

Henri Le Sidaner's Automne d'Ore, Quimperle, 1923. Called an "intimiste" and a "poet of silent moments" by the press of his day, Le Sidaner's depiction of a quiet embankment dappled in sunlight and the golden leaves of a fall afternoon is sublime. While he was great admirer of Seurat and Signac, he adapted the pointillest technique to a freer and more fluid stroke, applying patches of color more expressively.

HENRI LE SIDANER (French, 1862–1939) Automne d’oré, Quimperlé, 1923 Oil on canvas 28 x 32 in. (71.1 x 81.3 cm) Signed lower left): Le Sidaner

Gustave Loiseau's Le Quai de Pothuis, Pontoise, 1905 was a favorite motif for the artist. Like Pissarro he kept a studio in Pontoise and painted this charming street along the Seine in all weathers and seasons. The elegant figure holding an umbrella is a rare belle-epoque element seldom included by this artist in his compositions. The twin trees in the immediate foreground recall the work of Sisley in Moret sur Loing while the light pastel hues are a clear hommage to Monet whom Loiseau greatly admired.

GUSTAVE LOISEAU (French, 1865-1935) Le Quai de Pothuis, Pontoise, 1905 Oil on canvas, 21 ½ x 28 ¾ inches (54.6 x 73 cm) Signed and dated lower left: G Loiseau 1905

All works in the collection can be viewed by appointment at the gallery.
