The 34th Western Visions Show + Sale commenced on September 16, 2021, with a hybrid in-person and virtual event at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Artwork sold benefited both the Museum and participating artists, and select awards were given. The Show + Sale closed over the weekend, culminating on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Strong participation online and in-person led to 68% of works selling, an increase over last year’s event. The sale also exceeded total revenue figures from the previous year, bringing in close to $400,000. Western Visions is the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s largest and longest-running fundraiser and is one of the signature events of the Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival.
“We’re so grateful that we could offer more than one way to participate in the event this year,” says Michelle Dickson, Director of Programs and Events. “Thanks to our partnership with GraVoc [a technology-consulting firm], we were able to open ticket sales to a wider audience. Those who couldn’t participate in person also had the opportunity to join virtually or enter through a proxy. This platform was a positive step forward in adapting to an ever changing environment,” continued Dickson. Ever a local favorite, Western Visions expanded its reach nationally with this new technology, which brought participants from 28 different states.
The 2021 Western Visions award winners are:
- People’s Choice Award: Bruce Lawes, Freedom on High
- Red Smith Award (Artists’ Choice): Thomas Aquinas Daly, Still Life with Wood Ducks & Blue Magic
- Trustee Purchase Award: William Alther, Her Elegancy
The Museum also hosted a virtual panel discussion, Art and Conservation: Going Out on a Limb, with moderator Dr. Adam Harris and featured artists Steve Kestrel, George Boorujy, Penelope Gottlieb, and Emily Poole. The panel discussion is available to watch on YouTube.
The National Museum of Wildlife Art thanks the community, participating artists, our generous sponsors, and enthusiastic attendees for their continued support of Western Visions.
