Harriette Joffe, Passages, from the RiverJazz Series, acrylic on canvas, 40 x 60, 2013

Lawrence Fine Art will present "Harriette Joffe:  RiverJazz and All That Stuff" at its East Hampton Gallery beginning Thursday, June 27 with a reception Saturday, June 29 at 4 pm as part of ArtWalk Hamptons.  Joffe will also give a gallery talk on Saturday, July 6 at 4 pm.  Lawrence Fine Art will also highlight her new work at ArtHamptons beginning July 11.

Lawrence Fine Art will show work from Joffe's "River Song" series and her "RiverJazz" series, one watercolor on translucent mylar and the other acrylic on canvas. "This is the second time in as many years we have been privileged to show Joffe's work," said Gallery Director Howard Shapiro. "Her new work is a distillation of themes she has pursued throughout her career, including an examination of motion and music as translated onto canvas and the subtle interplay of form and abstraction."

Joffe's career spans the post-World War II Abstract Expressionist movement to the present. Embraced by the first generation of Abstract Expressionist painters on the East End of Long Island, she represents one of the last living links to central figures in the avant-garde of 20th century American art, including such artists as Willem De Kooning, Philip Pavia, Ibram Lassaw, John Little and Balcomb Greene.  She has exhibited nationally in galleries and museums, showing alongside artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Eric Fischel, Linda Benglis, April Gornick, Larry Rivers, and Jackie Windsor. Joffe also worked with the pioneering Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass, or DUMBO, artists finding a voice within the then emerging New York City avant-garde in the 1970s.

Joffe's contribution to the history of Abstract Expressionism is featured in the Parrish Museum's "Oral Histories" series.

The Joffe exhibit is one of a series of exhibitions and gallery talks that Lawrence Fine Art is sponsoring over the course of the Hamptons summer season.  "With the opening of the new Parrish Museum, the Hamptons are growing as an art destination and we are trying to cater to serious collections," said Shapiro.
