Lauren Walden Rabb, former Curator of Art at the University of Arizona Museum of Art, writes about the art world from an insider’s point of view.
Ms. Rabb’s career in the arts spans thirty years – from her early days as a gallerista for Hollis Taggart Galleries in NYC, to her years owning her own gallery and then working as the Curator at the UAMA. Currently, Ms. Rabb manages the Healing Art Program at Tucson Medical Center.
This novel, her third, is the tale of an upstart gallery in New York City in the 1980s specializing in 19th and 20th century American art. Titled The Rise and Fall of the Trevor Whitney Gallery, the novel follows the adventures of Trevor Whitney - young, handsome and charming – as he tries to break into the exclusive world of high end art trading. With the help of some extraordinary assistants, and his own extensive knowledge and good eye, he succeeds beyond his wildest dreams – until a series of misunderstandings leaves him vulnerable, and a seductive con artist realizes he’s the perfect mark for the biggest scam of her career.
The New York art scene in the 1980s was a unique time of incredibly fast rising prices, a new world of technology, and the heartbreak of AIDS. Written by someone who lived it in her own career, The Rise and Fall of the Trevor Whitney Gallery is filled with real-life anecdotes and players that make this comic novel sparkle with truth.
The novel is available in paperback and e-book from Amazon.
