Los Angeles, CA (April 21, 2022) - Vellum LA, Los Angeles’s premier art gallery for NFT-backed digital art, is once again entering new territory. A gallery that was founded on the idea of breaking new ground and exploring the most innovative work is experiencing a first of their own, with their first ever Tezos NFT exhibition. Not only is this a milestone for the gallery, it is a fundraiser for Nova Ukraine meaning the benefits extend past the NFT community and towards the greater global good.

Curated by their Cultural Producer, Alice Scope, and in partnership with Marcel.Art Community, Hotel Blue explores the concept of home and community for the future “us”––the virtual beings of tomorrow. The exhibition features works by eight women, non-binary, and queer artists from six countries around the world whose works elaborate on how the body is used to give material form to an idea that has no form and space elsewhere in society. As we become more immersed and dependent on rapidly evolving technology, it becomes increasingly difficult to discern the boundaries between humans and machines.

“Posthuman bodies are never at home. They live in common spaces online, and these spaces, often temporary and fleeting, resemble hotels more so than homes. The proliferation of self centered technology pushes our society to put forward ‘improved’ versions of ourselves, giving way to a multitude of individualized personas. But can this multitude live as a community? And if so, where would they live? What is home for virtual beings?”

The works from the featured artists including Stacie Ant, Victoria Cribb, Crosslucid, Harriet Davey, Huntrezz, Keiken, Wednesday Kim, and Paula Pinna will be available for purchase as Tezos NFTs on Rarible. In partnership with Nova Ukraine, the majority of proceeds from this exhibition will support real humans who lost their homes in Ukraine during Russia’s invasion.

As an added bonus, the opening reception will take place in the form of a one-night immersive experience at the SVStudios 10,000 sq ft space in Atwater Village, inviting humans to explore the posthuman visuals on a large scale.

Hotel Blue will be on view in person from April 30th to May 15th at Vellum LA’s Melrose Gallery.
