MYKOLA SEMENENKO MASTERPIECES - Preview
Celebrating the opening of the Mango Art Festival at River City Bangkok Art Center on May 2-7, 2023, the international art event unveils the first public presentation of masterpieces from the Mykola Semenenko Collection.
This outstanding and recent private art collection has been created by Mykola Semenenko, a Ukraine artist born in 1937 near Odessa. Mykola Semenenko stands out in the current art landscape. He founded his own art movement - AEROPLASTICA - based on the rejection of Soviet art as part of the whole totalitarian system, and his vision of the individual creative nature.
Mykola Semenenko (artist short name MC) was born in 1937 near Odessa (Ukraine, in 1937 Soviet Union). He studied at the School of Theatre and Art in the Odessa region and later moved to Kyiv where he studied at the University of Kyiv, Faculty of Arts at the Polygraphic Institute. The visual artist, illustrator, stage designer and sculptor was also engaged to support young talents. Therefore he founded his private art academy, an absolute novum and political provocation in the Soviet communismn system.
The artists were required to make art to match the political agenda of the government with a focus on Social Realism, a form of Modern realism that served this purpose by the Soviet Union (U.S.S.R. 1922-1991). It was only allowed to promote the ideals of the Communist society and Social Realism was the vehicle for these messages.
But this has never been the intention and philosophy of Mykola Semenenko. Despite all risks of social pressure or prison, the independent artist, philosopher, and avant-garde art teacher created is his non-realistic series titled AEROPLASTICA from 1974 to 1988. The result was the opposite of Social Realism, a unique collection of abstract paintings featuring five topics, Masks, Birds, Mutual Gaze, Feminine Bust, and Megala.
Mykola Semenenko talking about AEROPLASTICA: „An illusion from a synthesis of sculpture, painting and graphic ,there is no sign of nature ,namely nothing real- construction form tone. But it is not an abstraction either, an ephemeral image".
Since 2022, the year of the invasion of Russia in Ukraine, Mykola Semenenko emigrated to Germany where he is living and working in Rheinland-Pfalz.
The first exhibition of works from the artist's private archive can now be seen in the River City Bangkok Art Center in the gallery section, booth G12, AHC PROJECTS Hamburg (Germany). The Mango Art Festival welcomes visitors, artists and collectors daily, May 2-7, 2023 from 11.00 am to 9.00 pm.
