Phillips Auction House is pleased to present the first private selling exhibition of 2020 – Ten Monkeys and a Dolphin: Banksy & KAWS. On view to the public at Phillips New York ( 450 Park Avenue, New York) from 14 January – 10 February, this exhibition brings together two of the most seminal street artists of the 21st century, featuring twenty iconic works by Banksy and KAWS, including rare paintings, screen prints, editions and sculptures.
“We are thrilled to kick off the new year with this exemplary grouping of artworks by two of the most provocative and celebrated street artists in the world,” states Miety Heiden, Phillips’ Head of Private Sales. “This curated selection of works are superlative examples of these artists’ distinctive oeuvres: which offer differing visual and material critiques and homages of contemporary society.”
In 2018, Phillips hosted Banksy: Who’s Laughing Now? in Hong Kong, followed by Banksy: The Authentic Rebel in February 2019 in Taipei. Both shows were hugely successful, bringing an entirely new audience to Phillips’ galleries in Asia. Ten Monkeys and a Dolphin marks the first time that Phillips is presenting a US-based exhibition dedicated to either the anonymous British street artist or Brooklyn native Brian Donnelly. The exhibition aims to create a dialogue among these two controversial artists, who have each responded to the current events and culture of the 21st century in insightful and impactful ways.
