Following the success of the Avenue Antiques Show at the Armory last month in Manhattan, owner Bill Rau will be exhibiting at the Fine Arts Fair in Hong Kong from October 4 to 7. A collection of fine art, antiques and furniture, plus a superb selection of rare gems and important jewelry will be for sale in the M.S. Rau booth. www.rauantiques.com
For example, Pierre-Auguste Renoir's Madame Paul Valéry (1904, oil on canvas) will be offered at $5.5million. Jeanne Valéry was the wife of the French poet and philosopher, Paul Valéry. By a strange twist of fate, Jeanne came under the guardianship of Renoir in 1895, and because Renoir was good friends with Paul Valéry, a loving relationship developed and Jeanne married Paul in 1900. This portrait was the first documented portrait Renoir completed of Jeanne and it's an exceptional composition.
The internally flawless, D-color, 5.04 carat Golconda diamond ring in a platinum Cartier setting, is the highlight of the jewelry collection that M.S. Rau is showing at the fair. Priced at $885,000, the ring is distinguished by the source of the diamond, from the Golconda mines, which produce diamonds that are typically two shades whiter and brighter than diamonds from other mines. Golconda diamonds are not only scarce and prized for their opulence.
Now in its eighth year, the Fine Art Asia has become one of the world's leading fine art fairs, with more than 100 dealers from Asia, Europe and the US presenting a unique combination of art and antiques from both East and West.
