Irene Rice Pereira (American, 1902-1971), Monument I (Washington), 1938, 30 x 36 inches, signed and dated lower right

Jonathan Boos is pleased to offer a rare painting by pioneering Modernist Irene Rice Pereira (American, 1902-1971). One of the biggest proponents of the Bauhaus movement in the United States, Pereira received critical acclaim for her abstract depictions of American's industrialization and the modern age. Pereira was the first woman to receive a major retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1953 and is considered one of the first female modernist painters.

Pereira's rare early work Monument I (Washington), 1938, is available and on view at the gallery. We invite you to learn more about this painting of the nation's capital, and how it can be added to your collection, with our latest Boos Knows article.

Jonathan Boos is open by appointment. Contact us to schedule a time to visit the gallery this summer!
