World Record Prices Smashed for Contemporary Artists in $78 Million Phillips de Pury Sales

Phillips de Pury & Company’s Contemporary Art Part I totalled $71,292,500, selling 94% by value and 84% by lot in a lively and packed auction room in New York this week. Contemporary Art Part II totalled $7,180,800, selling 70% by value and 73% by lot.
A number of world record prices were set for artists such as Richard Serra, Rob Pruitt, Adam McEwen, Nate Lowman, Hans Peter Feldmann, Haegue Yang, Sturtevant, Jack Goldstein and Wang Shugang, among others.
In addition, the Contemporary Art Benefit auction for the Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation totaled $2,682,000, selling 93% by value and 95% by lot.
“We were very happy to lend our support to the Guggenheim Museum. The Benefit Auction was the ideal prelude to what overall was a very successful evening,” said Simon de Pury, Chairman of Phillips de Pury & Company.
