The Outsider Art Fair, the premier fair devoted to Self Taught Art, Art Brut, and Outsider Art, has announced the exhibitor list and programming for its forthcoming 7th Paris edition. OAF Paris returns to Atelier Richelieu in the 2nd Arrondissement, easily accessible from the Grand Palais. The fair runs from October 17 – 20, 2019, concurrent with FIAC, and showcases the works of 42 international exhibitors from 14 countries with 11 first-time galleries. View exhibitor list here.
New exhibitors for 2019 include James Barron Art (Kent, CT), which will feature works by recently discovered Italian self-taught artists Elisabetta Zangrandi and Vera Girivi. Les Douches la Galerie (Paris) will present a solo booth of prints by the acclaimed American street photographer Vivian Maier (1926-2009). Jennifer Lauren (Manchester, UK) will feature the ceramic sculptures of Japanese artist Shinichi Sawada. Sawada, who gained international recognition in 2013 at The Encyclopedic Palace exhibition (55th Venice Biennale), was also the subject of OAF Paris’s curated space in 2015. The fair welcomes its first gallery from the Middle East, Lawrie Shabibi (Dubai, UAE), which will present a solo booth of works by Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim. Other newcomers include BigTown Gallery (Rochester, VT), Arthur Borgnis (Paris), Kunstraum (Nuremberg), Outsiderville (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Galerie SINIYA28, Marrakech.
Visitors can expect to see works by the most celebrated figures of historical art brut including Henry Darger, Aloîse Corbaz, Bill Traylor, Anna Zemankova, and Adolf Wölfli at the booths of veteran dealers like JP Ritsch-Fisch (Strasbourg), Cavin-Morris (New York), Les Yeux Fertiles (Paris), Galerie Du Marché (Lausanne), Andrew Edlin (New York), Creative Growth Art Center (Oakland, CA), and La Fabuloserie (Paris). Avid readers and scholars will be pleased to know that Raw Vision will be returning with a stand, and Halle Saint Pierre will again install its world-renowned bookstore at OAF Paris.
This year’s Curated Space, Art Brut – Photos, will be organized by Bruno Decharme (Collection abcd) featuring photographs and photo-collages by artists included in Photo|Brut: Collection Bruno Decharme & Compagnie, an exhibition shown at Les Rencontres d’Arles, traveling to the American Folk Art Museum (New York) in Summer 2020.
On Friday, October 18th, OAF will host Women Collecting Art Brut, an evening dedicated to the recognition of female self-taught artists as well as, for the first time, female collectors. This unique event will feature a guided tour with iconic creative Michele Lamy, and a film about women who explore feminism in their art at Centre Pompadour (Ercourt, France), a neo-feminist laboratory and artist residency.
On Saturday, October 19th, aficionados of art brut will gather at Hôtel Drouot for OAF Talks, featuring a panel on the Outsider Art market organized by Melanie Gerlis (Financial Times), and a film screening with Collection de l’Art Brut Director Sarah Lombardi.
