- September 10, 2013
2013 AVENUE Antiques, Art & Design at The Armory (October 9-13), one of Manhattan's premier antiques and art fairs, will fill the Park Avenue Armory with the finest inventory of over 60 top dealers from across the globe. The show opens with a Private Preview by Invitation on the night of Wednesday, October 9 and is Open to the Public Thursday, October 10 - Sunday, October 13.
Each year, the show boasts a diverse selection of fine and decorative arts spanning various eras and genres, including French English, Italian and Continental furnishings from the 17th century through Art Deco and Mid Century Modern; Fine Art from 19th Century to Modern and Contemporary; Vintage and Contemporary Photography; Antique, Estate and Fine Jewelry; Fine Silver; Art Deco Objet; Art Glass; Antique Enamels; Russian Antiquities; Antique English and Meissen Porcelain; Contemporary Ceramics; Sculpture; Rugs and Tapestries and much more.
Dealers will showcase remarkable pieces geared towards sophisticated New York City area collectors. New Orleans dealer M.S. Rau consistently impresses show visitors with important fine art, silver and jewelry. This year they are exhibiting The Royal Blue Diamond, one of the world's rarest blue diamonds, valued at $9.5 million and weighing 10.06 carats, as well as Renoir and Gauguin paintings.
Calderwood Gallery from Philadelphia is offering one of this year's showstoppers, a custom piano by 20th century French design legend Maurice Dufrène. This important piece of Art Deco history was created specifically for the 1925 Paris "Exoposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes," the first global exhibition devoted to the decorative arts which later gave the Art Deco movement its name.
This fall marks the second time that the show will include photography dealers. Holden Luntz Gallery of Palm Beach is returning with their own booth as well as a special exhibition of Cuerpos Pintados, Chilean photographer Roberto Edwards' groundbreaking project that has invited internationally renowned artists to explore the body through direct body painting since 1981. The October 2013 AVENUE Show marks the first time the images will appear in New York City outside a museum setting.
A star-studded Design Committee chaired by Ellie Cullman and Mario Buatta will come together to support this much loved "shopping show." Again this year, renowned designers will curate their favorite picks, which will be highlighted at the show and can be previewed along with other offerings on the show's Pinterest boards.
The show also offers a full program of original lectures and events that enhance the collecting experience. Design expert, author and TODAY Show contributor Susanna Salk will moderate a "Best in Show" panel discussion with top decorators sharing details about their favorite finds. New York School of Design's "Design Day" will feature a full day of lectures by leading members of the design community, including Geoffrey Bradfield, Mario Buatta, Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz, Sandra Nunnerly, Vicente Wolf and more. British country house expert Curt DiCamillo will speak on "The Real Downton Abbey," and Antiques Road Show Star Joyce Jonas will lead guests on a tour of the show's most unique jewelry pieces. Dates, times and additional details about this programming can be found on the event page of the show's website.
This year marks an inaugural partnership with Jaguar of Manhattan, which will showcase an elegant new model in the Show Café.
