Lawrence Fine Art returns to the Boston International Fine Art Show for the fifth year with a tightly curated exhibit of contemporary and modern favorites. The gallery will showcase works by modernist master Rolph Scarlett, beautiful New England work by post-impressionist painter Hayley Lever, abstract expressionist work by Anna Walinska and minimalist work by contemporary artist Larry Wolhandler. Gallery Assistant Director Lisette Ruch and artist niece Rosina Rubin will give a talk on "Anna Walinska: Rewriting the History of the New York School Artists" on the Friday night of the Fair.

"We like the small, curated format of the Boston Fair," said Gallery Director Howard Shapiro.  "Quality, not quantity, always works."

The gallery will show early, expressionist works by Rolph Scarlett. Scarlett was exposed to German expressionism through his relationship with Kandinsky and Rudolph Bauer.  Like so much of his ouevre, this work has not been deeply explored.

The gallery will also show a lovely Martha's Vineyard work by American post-impressionist painter Hayler Lever.  "It's a little off the beaten track for us, but this is definitely a work that belongs in Massachusetts," explained Shapiro.

The gallery held a sort-of "coming out" exhibition for Walinska this past summer. Nearly all of the works to be shown were originally exhibited at her one-woman retrospectives held at the Jewish Museum and the Baltimore Museum in 1956 and 1957.  "The story of the New York School is still being written," explained Shapiro.  "There are many artists from that period whose career and work deserve reappraisal.  We call them 'Rediscovered Masters.' Walinska is one of these."

Finally, the gallery will showcase new minimalist work by Larry Wolhandler whose "Larry Wolhandler: Bardic Aspirations" is currently on display at the gallery.  "We tried Larry's work at the AD20/21 show in the spring," said Shapiro.  "People really responded."
