AD20/21: Art & Design of the 20th & 21st Centuries combined with The Boston Print Fair takes place March 21-24, 2013, at The Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts in Boston's South End. AD20/21 features galleries specializing in modern to contemporary furniture, glass, ceramics and decorative arts alongside a wide array of modern to contemporary fine art. The Print Fair features dealers in American, European and Asian fine prints, drawings, photography and other works on paper. Tony Fusco and Robert Four, co-producers of the show, are pleased to announce the initial exhibitor roster, now posted on the show’s website
For a complete roster of exhibitors visit www.AD2021.com. For information on all three shows produced in Boston by Fusco & Four, visit www.BostonArtFairs.com.
The only show of its kind, AD20/21 features fine art and design in all disciplines representing major design movements of the 20th century. Notably, the show also includes outstanding 21st century fine art, prints, studio furniture, glass, ceramics, decorative arts, jewelry, photography, and more, bridging the gap between historical styles and contemporary works, and deepening collectors' appreciation for both.
New galleries this year include all three of Boston’s newest contemporary galleries, Adelson Galleries Boston, a new branch of Adelson Galleries of Manhattan; Gold Gallery, launched by entrepreneur Adam Gold; and Sloane Merrill Gallery, now open on Boston’s famed Charles Street at the base of Beacon Hill. Other new exhibitors include America Dural of Cambridge, headed by interior designer Phillip Jude Miller; Charon Kransen Arts (NY), one of the country’s leading dealers in contemporary jewelry from across the globe; FitzRoy Knox and Judith Pommer, both galleries from New York City; and The Tolman Collection of Tokyo and New York, specializing in Japanese prints. Returning galleries include Mid-Century Modern dealers Bridges Over Time (NY), Machine Age (MA) and Glen Leroux Antiques (NY).
Landry & Arcari (MA) will once again offer modern to contemporary Oriental rugs, and three contemporary furniture designers will add to the mix: 60Nobscot Home (MA), City Joinery (MA) and Javier Ybarra (MA), and well as the innovative Room 68 (MA), with its collection of contemporary studio design for the home. Alastair Crawford, a well-know dealer in silver, will exhibit as CRAWFORD (CT), his own contemporary design studio featuring jewelry, silver, and other design accessories and decorative arts. Robert Lloyd (NY), also known as a dealer in historical silver, will exhibit modern and contemporary fine art including an outstanding collection of original oil on canvas maquettes for Guinness beer, along with decorative and precious objects. Palette Contemporary Art & Craft returns from New Mexico offering an interesting mix of fine art, glass, vintage watches and radios and more.
Outstanding fine art galleries returning to the show include Childs Gallery (MA), Martha Richardson Fine Art (MA) and Susanna J. Fichera (ME). The Boston Print Fair section of the show will feature three contemporary print publishers: Center Street Studio (MA), Oehme Graphics (CO) and Manneken Press (IL), along with returning print exhibitors Edward T. Pollack Fine Arts (ME), Gargoyle Gallery Fine Prints (MA), Marc Chabot Fine Arts (CT) and Tom Boss Fine Art (MA), along with others. 31Galerie (France) will offer fine art photography, and AW Massey Fine Art (FL) will offer modern masters.
A special exhibition throughout the weekend at the show will feature contemporary furniture designer by alumni furniture makers of North Bennett Street School in Boston. As always, Design Museum Boston will be on hand to introduce visitors to its unique programs.
The show opens Thursday, March 21, with a Gala Preview from 5:30-8:30pm, with all proceeds benefiting Boston Architectural College (BAC), New England's largest independent, accredited college of spatial design. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Boston collector and philanthropist John P. Axelrod at 6:00pm at the Gala. Last year's Gala was attended by more than 600 people and raised over $100,000. The show continues Friday, March 22 from 1-8pm, Saturday, March 23 from 11am-8pm, and Sunday March 24 from 11am-5pm. Weekend admission is $15, under 12 free, and includes a complimentary color show catalog, admission to all special programs at the fair. Valet and discount parking is available, and the show café is catered by Jules Catering.
The Cyclorama provides the ideal venue for this exciting show. Built in 1884 to house an enormous panorama painting (a "cyclorama") of the Battle of Gettysburg, the large circular rotunda and adjacent salons encourage visitors to both linger and wander throughout the show. The historic structure is the heart of the Boston Center for the Arts complex, which boasts four theatres, a gallery, the Boston Ballet School, 50 artist studios and other facilities. There are more than a dozen "hot" restaurants and nightspots within a five-minute walk.
The Cyclorama has become a mecca in Boston for the arts, and is also the location for Fusco & Four's annual Boston International Fine Art Show (BIFAS), which has been running for 16 years. Fusco & Four also re-launched the Ellis Boston Antiques Show at The Cyclorama last year. For more information on all three shows, visit www.BostonArtFairs.com.
