Gerald Peters Gallery, New York and Gavin Spanierman Ltd. announce a merger, bringing clients a wide offering of museum quality art from Classic Masterworks and American Modernism to Contemporary Artists.
The union of these two distinguished galleries brings over 65 years of experience in the art world and provides an incredible synergy between the two. The founders, Gavin Spanierman and Gerald Peters, look forward to serving a broader and more diverse clientele.
Gerald Peters Gallery brings specialization in Classic Masterworks of Western art such as Frederic Remington, Charles Marion Russell, Charles Bird King, and George Catlin. American Modernism has also been a constant interest of the gallery's holding the prime position of Georgia O'Keeffe's dealer in the 70's. Currently Gerald Peters Gallery represents the estate of Max Weber, one of the organizers of the landmark 1913 Armory show.
Gavin Spanierman Ltd. is respected for its work in American Hudson River School, which includes reputable artists such as Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Church, Sanford Gifford and Frederic Kensett. Some of the most important American Impressionist paintings have made their way through Gavin Spanierman Ltd. Artists include Winslow Homer, Childe Hassam, John Singer Sargent, and John Twachtman.
Also joining Gerald Peters and Gavin Spanierman is Sallie Mapp Wiggins, formerly of New York's Knoedler Gallery. Wiggins will be the Director of Modern and Contemporary.
The newly united New York City Gallery is located in a beautiful townhouse on the prestigious Upper Eastside on 78th Street between Fifth and Madison.
About Gavin Spanierman
Gavin Spanierman joined three generations of his family in the art business when he took a position at Spanierman Gallery in 1989 and became director in 1996. Throughout his career Spanierman presented museum-quality exhibitions that included loans from museums and private collections. Spanierman Gallery became New York City's premiere gallery for traditional, modern, and contemporary art. In 2009 Spanierman moved on to found his own private gallery and named it Gavin Spanierman Ltd., specializing in nineteenth and early twentieth century art of superb quality and rarity.

He is known as one of the foremost, knowledgeable authorities on American nineteenth and early twentieth century works, the art of the American West, the Taos Society, and Santa Fe Art Colony.
