Adam Van Doren: An Artist in Venice

Childs Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of the Venetian paintings of Adam Van Doren, prize-winning artist, author, and teacher at Yale University, where he is also an Associate Fellow. The exhibition coincides with the recent release of Van Doren’s charming memoir An Artist in Venice, a story of a quarter-century spent enthralled with and inspired by the sights and sounds of the Floating City.
The works on view expertly capture the essence of both Van Doren’s and the world’s fascination with Venice. Atmospheric nights, quiet dawns, and hazy dusks are coupled with beautiful attention to Renaissance architectural details. Van Doren’s paintings elucidate the aspects of the city which contribute to its eternal zeitgeist as one of the most romantic and captivating cities of the world.
The artist’s paintings are held by many major American museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. His work has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C., among other institutions. The artist is the subject of a monograph and his art has been published in several books and catalogues.
The exhibition is on view through November 30, 2013. View it online at childsgallery.com
