The Fort Lauderdale Home Design and Remodeling Show presents “At Home with Art” -- an art exhibit, where within 6 curated art exhibit booths, 18 Broward artists will showcase work of various mediums including sculptures, paintings, and digital art.  Artists are either members of non-profit organizations, ArtServe or Grace Arts Center with Sugarcane. This Home Show feature is sponsored by Around Town Arts and Culture Magazine.

Presenters were selected following a call for artists and selection process, (by Home Show representatives) based on the artist’s skills and support of Broward’s artistic community through education or service projects.

For the first time, “At Home with Art” welcomes two groups of friends who have exhibited together in the past:

The first group of artist friends presents, “Synapse” featuring paintings by Maria Garcés Luzuriaga, Lifrancis Rojas and Eduardo Pelaez.  Before becoming her own art teacher, Luzuriaga taught Rojas’ children (and is still her daughter’s art teacher.) Pelaez was first a friend of Luzuriaga’s husband and would later meet Rojas. The three artists all reside in Weston and find common ground in both their Latin American heritage and complementary artistic styles.

“South Florida is an amazing melting pot of races and cultures, something that enriches and beautifies it in a very special way,” comments Luzuriaga. “As a visual artist, I capture the contrasts of cultures, sounds - music, languages, birds, sea, thunder and rain, as well as its colorful vegetation and its unique and ever-changing skies, where everything flows in harmony.” Show-goers will enjoy a display of bold, vibrant, and passionate paintings.

An exhibit of reclaimed art, presented by Grace Arts Center with Sugarcane, features duct tape panels by Steven Castro aka La Mano Fria. Pictured here: “Juliet” by Steven Castro aka La Mano Fria.

The second group presents, “Birds of Feather” that encompasses the work of Janet Gold, Deborah Gregg and Andrea Huffman, all mixed media artists working in assemblage, painting and textiles. The three artists came together in 2014 to form 6 Hands Collaborative. Each being drawn to vintage and distressed objects in their individual art, they created their first collaborative artwork together that day. Between the three of them, they have 99 years of experience as professional artists.

“At Home with Art” will also feature:

Energy and Explosion – Paintings and monotypes by Twyla Gettert and a 3D sculptural installation of flowers, created through a manipulation of flat sheet metal by Anabel Rub Peicher;

Art Reclaimed – Compelling folk and self-taught art from unusual materials (such as duct tape and metal) explore personal stories of redemption through fine art from the African Diaspora in South Florida. Exhibiting artists are: Steven Castro, Frederick Goldstein, Bayunga  Kiakeuka, and T. Eliott Mansa represented by Grace Arts Center with Sugarcane Media.

Organic Simplicity Cannot Be Undervalued – The works of George Gadson, John Paul Goncalves and Darren Johnson consist of multiple materials such as found objects, paintings, photography and sculpture, all converging together forming a cohesive theme centered on nature and humanity.

“Spirit” by Anabel Rub Peicher. For “At Home with Art”, Peicher will create a site specific installation titled, “Explosion” made up of flowers, created through a manipulation of flat sheet metal.

Dimensions of Art and Soul – The soul and its spiritual connection to the living world extracts dimensions of ‘light thoughts’ and ‘dark visions’ reflected in works of art by Shernett Muhammad, Tammy Kaston Frand, and Osvaldo Gabriel Gonzalez.

Artists are on hand together with featured interior designers: Viviana Malave of VGM Decorators; Crystal J. Pierre of High-Life Designs; and Renan Rodriguez of Rozu Design Solutions and will help “demystify” the art selection and buying process.
