Boulder County, CO –Time for Round 2!  Artemis Gallery Live’s Ancient/Ethnographic Spring Variety Sale Part II will take place on May 21, 2014, hot on the heels of its wildly successful April predecessor. The sale will offer a wide range of ancient and ethnographic art, with nearly every lot starting below $400.

“So many bidders took advantage of our last variety sale to really add to their collections,” says Teresa Dodge, co-owner of Artemis Gallery Live. “Part II will offer the same authentic ancient art at knockout prices.”

The auction is a true variety sale, showcasing authentic ancient art with a few vintage items thrownin to add a “modern” twist. Among the vintage offerings is a collection of John F. Kennedy presidential campaign memorabilia (Lots 1; 73-75), and a stunning collection of vintage Iranian and Egyptian textiles and brassware from the 1970s (Lots 207-214). The wonderful ancient art that Artemis Gallery Live is known for is front and center, of course, with beautiful offerings from nearly every ancient culture.

Lots of note include a Greek Apulian Miniature Bell Krater (Lot 4) charming in size and impressive in craftsmanship, a Khmer Carved Stone Buddha Head (Lot 10), serenely beautiful, and a Mayan Terracotta Skull (Lot 38) with a truly gruesome grin! A series of fine Mexican retablos, colorful oil paintings on tin (Lots 44-54), a set of whimsical Javanese puppets (Lot 154), a trio of Javanese painted masks (Lots 133-135), and a sweet Inuit Eskimo Carved Soapstone Walrus (Lot 20) give a taste of wonderful folk art from across the globe.  Ancient jewelry offerings, ever popular and always stunning, include a pair of Prehistoric Hohokam Shell Bracelets (Lot 136), a Mexcala Guerrero Jadeite Bat Pendant (Lot 132), and a Bactrian Bronze Openwork Pendant (Lot 2).

Lot 178: Mayan Copador Bowl, ca. 550-900 CE.

The auction also features lots of pottery from around the world, including Anasazi (Lots 55-57), Indus Valley (Lots 33-34), and Sukothai (Lots 98-103). A series of Daunian pottery from the collection of Byron Farwell, an Air Force captain stationed in Italy 1944-45 who personally excavated pieces with the blessing of the Italian government (Lots 140-145), a collection of hand-carved Chinese jades (Lots 215-216), and pair of stunning Pre-Columbian Tumbaga Gold Figures (Lots 121-123) round out an auction that truly offers something for every taste.

As with all of Artemis Gallery Live’s auctions, all items are legal to buy/sell under U.S. statute covering cultural patrimony per United States Code 2600, Chapter 14 – Convention on Cultural Property, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.  No sale is ever final if you’re not happy.
