Now in its fourth year, Masterpiece London has cemented its position as the principal event at the heart of London‟s summer art season. This year the fair will present the finest art, design, antique furniture, precious jewels and collectors‟ items from over 160 selected and internationally renowned galleries and workshops (59% UK: 41% International), confirming Masterpiece London is a truly international event.
The range of disciplines is vast – providing something of interest for every visitor. Each item is selected on merit and individually vetted by 26 committees of independent experts and specialists before the fair begins, guaranteeing the quality and authenticity is of the highest order.
There are many highlights at the fair this year, from the modern masters Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró through to contemporary giants Bill Viola and Marc Newson, to Tudor and Renaissance treasures including works by Albrecht Dürer, Nicholas Hilliard and the newly discovered Mary Tudor pearl. Many of the exhibitors taking part have created a unique offering for Masterpiece London whether it is a collection of rare London maps spanning six centuries or Based Upon‟s remarkable Twist Piano.
Complementing Masterpiece London‟s Asian Art section that includes exhibitors Jorge Welsh, Susan Ollemans and Michael Goedhuis, is the Chinese Heritage and Arts Festival’s launch of the first Hong Kong Pavilion which celebrates the most exquisite in art, antiques and design from China. The pavilion will include traditional and contemporary Chinese works of art, and is sponsored by Hong Kong‟s Fine Art Asia fair. In turn Masterpiece London will curate a pavilion dedicated to European works of art at Fine Art Asia (4-7 October 2013).
The various events at the fair provide many opportunities for the visitor to return over the course of the eight-day occasion. The evening of Tuesday 2 July will play host to the Masterpiece Midsummer Party in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care hosted by Heather Kerzner. This year, the fair welcomes The Courtauld Institute of Art as its cultural beneficiary. As well as being an internationally-renowned college for the study of art history, conservation and curating, The Courtauld Institute of Art has a world-famous collection that stretches from the early Renaissance into the 20th century, making it the perfect complement to the fair. The Courtauld Institute of Art will also be hosting a number of talks at the fair on masterpieces from its collections.
The Salon space this year will be hosted by Ochre, a company which designs furniture, lighting and accessories for the interior. Their designs place equal importance on harmonious proportions, luxurious materials and matchless craftsmanship. A discerning edit of their collection will be shown at the Salon, where guests can enjoy a glass of Ruinart, the fair‟s champagne partner.
The aesthetic experience will only be enhanced with celebrated pop-up dining opportunities provided by Urban Caprice including Le Caprice, Scott’s Seafood & Champagne Bars, The Ivy Bar and The Mount Street Deli. For the fourth year running, Masterpiece will present an event which combines the very best of art, craftsmanship, culture and connoisseurship from the ancient civilisations through to the present day.
Masterpiece London presents the finest art from prestigious international galleries alongside design, fine antique furniture, precious jewels and vintage cars. It offers connoisseurs, patrons, collectors and visitors a varied and in depth offering with over 150 international exhibitors showcasing £1 billion worth of works from antiquity to contemporary.
