The artist in residency program prepares to welcome its third cohort for its 2022-2023 program at the World Trade Center with an open call to submit applications by May 22, 2022.
Silver Arts Projects is pleased to announce that applications for its third artist residency program are now open. If selected as part of the 2022-2023 program, artists will be provided with a free, year-long studio space at 4 World Trade Center, networking opportunities with museum curators, collectors, and press, and career development programming and mentoring from established artists, all designed to nurture sustainable professional practices. The program was founded in 2018 by Cory Silverstein and Joshua Pulman for the purpose of supporting, incubating, and accelerating the careers of artists who have been underserved or challenged by access and affordability of studio space in New York City.
Applications are open today through May 22, 2022. Selected artists will be notified of their acceptance to the residency in early June 2022. The 2022-2023 program will run from September 1, 2022 through June 15, 2023. To apply please visit: https://www.silverart.com/apply/
The 2022-2023 cohort is chosen by a selection committee based on individual level of need, the extent to which the work contributes to the mission of Silver Art Projects, and if the work can feasibly be made within the parameters of the studio space. Up to five spaces in this residency program are reserved for artists who have been formerly incarcerated. These artists will be awarded residencies through a separate nomination/selection process.
Selection committee members include accomplished artworld professionals Swizz Beatz, producer, record executive, entrepreneur and art collector; Suzy Delvalle, interim executive director, Blade of Grass and cultural strategist; JiaJia Fei, digital strategist; Roxane Gay, professor and New York Times best-selling author; Larry Ossei-Mensah, independent curator, critic, and co-founder, ARTNOIR; and Eugenie Tsai, John and Barbara Vogelstein Senior Curator of Contemporary Art, Brooklyn Museum; and influential artists Jammie Holmes, Tyler Mitchell and Mickalene Thomas.
“We look forward to selecting and welcoming another extraordinary and passionate group of artists to be part of the Silver Art Projects community,” said John Hatfield, Executive Director of Silver Art Projects. “This program has the power to transform careers with the opportunities it provides through both its physical space and environment of encouragement and inspiration among fellow artists.”
“We have a big task ahead of us,” said Joshua Pulman, Co-Founder of Silver Art Projects. “We receive more and more applications every year, and it is always an honor to review the amazing work of these emerging artists and put together a team that will become our family for the next year.”
