Los Angeles, CA (March 23, 2022) - Thinkspace Projects is thrilled to present three all new solo shows, highlighting the works from varied and talented artists. While the works are different, the three collections have a through-line of hope and optimism.

Artist: Casey Weldon

In Gallery One, Thinkspace Projects is thrilled to present Casey Weldon’s latest solo show, ‘Tacit Turnabout.’ Each piece is inspired by real-life scenarios he has witnessed, including stories of loved ones, observations about his environment, and his own introspective self-evaluation. The collection is particularly special as it represents a return to creation and work for Weldon, who has recently been through a long stagnant period due to recent brain surgery. With ‘Tacit Turnabout,’ he aims to make something beautiful and fun out of relatively dark origins. While he is not aiming to beautify the struggles, he sheds light on a different perspective, emphasizing optimism and hope.

Also in Gallery One, Brian “Dovie” Golden’s latest solo show, ‘Parking Lot Carnival,’ explores the nostalgic connections of our past through the contemporary imagery of Dovie Golden. With a purposeful blend of portraiture, abstract line sketches, and bright colors, Dovie invites viewers to examine complex topics including mental health and hope. Incorporating his own personal struggles with anxiety, depression, and grief, stemming from the loss of his son, Dovie creates work that is both deeply personal and widely relatable.

In Gallery Two, Thinkspace is thrilled to introduce the work of Brazilian husband and wife duo Toco-Oco (aka Lara Alcântara and Guilherme Neumann). Toco-Oco sculptures carry Lara and Guilherme’s profound thoughts and gigantic questions about human existence in their clay frames. Under this playful name they dream up fantastical creatures which they turn into curious doll-sized sculptures, the latest of which make up this collection, “The World Within.” Originally beginning this artistic journey by creating figures intended for children, the duo keeps a sense of childlike whimsy in each and every piece. From the detailed sculptures to the detailed backstory, these creations are complex and engaging.

About Thinkspace

Thinkspace was founded in 2005; now in LA’s thriving West Adams District, the gallery has garnered an international reputation as one of the most active and productive exponents of the New Contemporary Art Movement. Maintaining its founding commitment to the promotion and support of its artists, Thinkspace has steadily expanded its roster and diversified its projects, creating collaborative and institutional opportunities all over the world. Founded in the spirit of forging recognition for young, emerging, and lesser-known talents, the gallery is now home to artists from all over the world, ranging from the emerging, mid-career, and established.

Though the New Contemporary Art Movement has remained largely unacknowledged by the vetted institutions of the fine art world and its arbiters of ‘high culture,’ the future promises a shift. The Movement’s formative aversion to the establishment is also waning in the wake of its increased visibility, institutional presence, and widespread popularity. Thinkspace has sought to champion and promote the unique breadth of the Movement, creating new opportunities for the presentation of its artists and work. An active advocate for what is now one of the longest extant organized art movements in history, Thinkspace is an established voice for its continued growth and evolution, proving their commitment by expanding its projects beyond Los Angeles, exhibiting with partner galleries and organizations in Berlin, Hong Kong, London, New York City, Detroit, Chicago, and Honolulu among many others, participating in International Art Fairs, and curating New Contemporary content for Museums. Committed to the vision, risk, and exceptional gifts of its artists, the gallery is first and foremost a family. From the streets to the museums, and from the “margins” to the white cube, Thinkspace is re-envisioning what it means to be “institutional.”
