Cowan’s to Offer The Collections of the Zanesville Museum of Art in March 24 Asian Art Auction

Cowan’s Auctions, Inc. will host their live salesroom Asian Art Auction on March 24, 2014. The near 800-lot live sale will feature substantial collections from the Zanesville Museum of Art, including Chinese and Southeast Asian bronzes, imperial textiles and early porcelains. Also offered in the sale is a private collection of antique ivory carvings, fine selections of Japanese and Chinese export silver, and early Qing dynasty porcelains. The sale will begin promptly at 10:00 am EST on March 24. Bidding will be available on Liveauctioneers.com, as well as absentee and phone bidding through cowans.com.
“I am truly pleased to be offering this great material deaccessioned from the Zanesville Museum of Art at no reserve, which consisted of donations from the 1930’s to the 1970’s,” notes Graydon Sikes, Director, Asian Art Department.
Among the items of note in the auction, porcelain pieces are expected to do well in the sale. A Pair of Rare Qianlong Blue and Yellow Bowls are estimated to bring $12,000/18,000, a very rare 18th Century Chinese Famille Rose Vase is estimated to sell anywhere between $8,000/12,000, a rare Chinese Meiping Double-Fish Vase is estimated at $7,000/9,000, and a Fine coral Red Reverse Decorated Bowl is expected to sell for $6,000/8,000.
Fine jade items will be featured in the March 24th auction. A Fine Chinese Ming Period Jade Water Buffalo Carving is estimated anywhere between $9,000/10,000, a Chinese Carved Jade Mythological Beast is expected to bring $8,000/10,000, a Chinese White Jade Archer’s Ring is estimated at $5,000/8,000, and a Japanese Celadon Square Vase is expected to sell anywhere between $6,000/8,000.
Ivory carvings are expected to perform well in the auction. A Fine Chinese Carved and Inked Figural Grouping is estimated at $3,000/5,000, a Group of Japanese Carved Ivory Figures is expected to bring $3,000/5,000, a Chinese Polychrome Ivory Figural Group is estimated to bring anywhere between $3,000/5,000, and a Chinese Carved Ivory Arched Bridge is estimated at $3,000/5,000.
