Summer Heat Brings the Cool to Clarke Auction July 22nd.

With the summer heat wave reaching its peak this weekend in the Northeast, Clarke Auction hopes to break the weather’s trend with some exceptionally cool lots in their sale on Monday July 22nd at 5pm.
A featured item in the sale is the ultra-cool 1981 Delorean to be sold without reserve at an estimate of $8,000 - $12,000 on July 22nd. Ironic how the ‘80s icon of style is considered cool since the body is made of stainless steel and has been displayed in front of the Larchmont auction gallery for the past week during the recent heat wave. If not by temperature alone, the Delorean has proven to be an undeniablyhot item in the sale. The vehicle has original title and a youthful 29,000 miles.
The Fine Art selections have also been garnering some seasonally high interest, especially in the international artist selections. An abstract oil on canvas of figure and landscape by Piotr Strelnick is featured in the sale. Other abstract works by Carl Heinz Kliemann, Norman Carton, Constantin Karahalios will also be offered on July 22nd. Also featured in the fine art selection is a magnificent oil on canvas of a woman feeding a cow by Enoch Wood Perry, an oil on canvas entitled “The Old Artist” by Benjamin Kopman, a James C. Thom winter scene with children, a large 19th century oil on canvas of a hunting dog and dead deer, an interior scene by Rafael Correa, a biblical oil on canvas by Francois Lafon, and many other fine examples of art.
Print selections include four lots of etchings by Felix Buhot, three woodblock prints by Paul Landacre, the “Checkerboard” lithograph by Louis Lozowick, a Salvidor Dali print of woman with unicorn, two lots of lithographs by Alexander Calder, several op-art prints, and others.
A large selection in the sale features contemporary and modern art glass by a number of makers, to be sold in appropriate groupings. The entire collection of all art glass lots came from a single estate of a local collector, and has been maintained beautifully. Artists include Randi Solin, Bernard Katz, Michael Nourot, Christine Moody, Lunderg Studios, Henry Lavine, MAD ART, and many others. Most of the pieces are individually signed and/or dated. Also in the glass and porcelain decorative selection, a green and gold Tiffany Favrille vase with wave design.
Silver and jewelry selections include a Reed & Barton “Hampton Court” five piece tea set, a magnificent Gorham tea service with tray, a Georg Jensen tea pot, a Jesen center bowl, and Jensen serving pieces, two large 18th century sterling trays, a large Gorham “Landsdowne” flatware set, a lot of three buccellati jam jars with sterling lids and spoons, and more. Jewelry selections include a Tiffany & Co. gold ladies pocket watch, a Tiffany & Co. men’s platinum and diamond ring, a gold Howard pocket watch, gold broaches, and other exquisite lots of gold and jewelry.
The midcentury design selection maintains its hot status in today’s market and many cool pieces will be featured on July 22nd. A sleek flat bar lounge chair designed by Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin is a featured piece in the selection. Other fine midcentury design examples include a Paul Frankl bedroom set with brass x-pulls, a Cedric Hartman adjustable brass and chrome table lamp, a Lucite prism chandelier, a shelving unit by Olaf Von Bohr for Kartell, a chagreen box with possible bone inlay attributed to Karl Springer, several rose wood end tables, a Bruksbo mobile rosewood bar, a teak furniture lot, many examples of seating including a set of six dining chairs by Niels Kofoed for Thornsten, Dunbar, Howard Miller, and more.
Asian art and design include two lots of spectacular antique porcelain and ivory panels, including an ivory panel table screen, Chinese lamps, porcelain, art and more. Japanese selections include a sword with WWII surrender tags, panels, porcelain, pottery, furniture and more.
Decorative arts selections include a featured bronze by Georges Gardet, a figural bronze by Emil Fuchs, vintage bronze tray lots, many bronze and bronze mounted lighting lots, and various other important pieces.
