Jackson, Wyoming – February 20, 2021 – The Jackson Hole Art Auction is pleased to present the inaugural Wyoming Art Auction, scheduled for February 20, 2021 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. An exclusive online sale of exceptional quality, the Wyoming Art Auction offers western, wildlife, sporting, and landscape works in a range of price-points. From smaller works by established western masters to larger decorative pieces, there is something for everyone from the emerging collector to the established connoisseur. Online and absentee bidding will be available. Works will be online for digital preview one month ahead of the sale, and in-person preview will also be available at our gallery in Jackson Hole for the month prior.
February’s sale will include a number of spectacular landscape pieces, among them is Porfirio Salinas’ Hill Country Bluebonnets, a 36 x 44 oil on canvas from 1941, which will be offered at $50,000-$75,000. The sale also fittingly shines a spotlight on Wyoming landscape subjects, with Bruce Cheever’s Grand Descent (oil/board, 31 x 47) estimated at $12,000-$18,000 and Conrad Schwiering’s Snake River Overlook (oil/board, 30 x 36) priced at $10,000-$15,000. Other landscape highlights include works by Clyde Aspevig, Matt Smith, and Curt Walters.
Sporting and wildlife highlights include an excellent illustration by wildlife master Bob Kuhn, entitled Watch the Buck Runways this acrylic and conte on paperboard measures 16 ½ x 25 ½ and will be offered at $10,000-$15,000. Other sporting highlights include multiple works by Stanley Meltzoff, among them is Eider Duck Shoot (oil/linen on board, 36 x 40 ¼) which will be offered at $12,000-$18,000. A small gem by Luke Frazier, Winner Takes All (oil/board, 10 x 14) is estimated at $2,000-$3,000 while Resting Elk by Jim Morgan (oil/board, 12 x 18) is at $1,000-$2,000. Another sporting highlight, Canada Geese by David Maass (oil/board, 24 x 36) will be offered at $6,000-$9,000. The sale also features quality offerings from Brent Cotton, Pip McGarry, Ralph Oberg, and Tucker Smith, among others.
Classic and contemporary western works will also feature prominently in this year’s sale. Tom Browning’s Fading Light (oil/canvas, 24 x 44) will be offered at $15,000-$25,000—this painting won the Silver Award at the 2010 Cowboy Artists of America show and sale. Other highlights from Cowboy Artist of America members include Bruce Greene’s A One Man Outfit (oil/canvas, 24 x 36) estimated at $6,000-$9,000, as well as a handful of small works by Wayne Baize, including Sunset Drive (oil/canvas, 9 x 12) at $1,000-$2,000. Several western bronzes will also be featured in the sale, including The Legend Lives by Bill Nebeker (bronze, 36 x 18 x 15), which is estimated at $6,000-$9,000. Additional works by Tyler Crow, Bill Owen, Clark Kelley Price, and Grant Redden will also be on offer.
