Lawrence Fine Art will open "Drip, Drap, Scribble and Stain," a group show, on November 17 at its East Hampton location. The show will continue through year-end.  Artists to be included are:  Bill Alpert, Emanuel Buckvar, Suzanne LaFleur, Rolph Scarlett and Pava Wulfert.

The show will survey the enduring attraction of drip and splatter painting, stain painting and scribbling to artists from the 1940s until today.  The show will include early drip paintings from the 1940s by Rolph Scarlett, one of the pioneers of drip painting who had his own show of drips at the Whitney in 1951. It will include combination drib and stain paintings by Bill Alpert from the 1960s and early 1970s. It will then jump to the present with lyrical scribble works by Suzanne LaFleur and Pava Wulfert and Emanuel Buckvar's interpretation of classic drip.

"This show is meant to be fun, but there is an educational purpose as well:  Too often, we think that drip, stain and scribble started and ended with Pollock and Frankenthaler or Twombly.  We now know that not to be the case.  Further, contemporary painters are employing these genres in new ways and with different intentions," explained Gallery Director Howard Shapiro.

This will be the gallery's third  showing of LaFleur's work, third of Scarlett's work and third of Buckvar's work. Alpert fits into the gallery's "Rediscovered Masters" program--literally. His work was found hidden behind a  faux wall in his Chelsea loft. Rejecting the commercialism of the contemporary art market, he chose not to show any of his work from the 1980s on. Pava Wulfert is a young Colombian artists who has shown frequently in Europe. This is his first  showing in the U.S.
