The Heckscher Museum of Art presents the 16th annual Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at the Heckscher Museum exhibition. This prestigious juried exhibition, on view in the Museum from March 31 through April 22, 2012, features a diverse selection of exceptional works by art students in grades 9 through 12 from more than 52 public and private schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Developed by The Heckscher Museum art educators, who work in partnership with art instructors from participating schools, this is the only juried exhibition on Long Island that offers high school students the opportunity to show their work in an art museum.
The Long Island's Best exhibition is the culmination of the Museum’s comprehensive arts-in-education program which integrates experiences in the Museum and the art classroom setting. Through close observation, discussion, and hands-on activities, students learn to make connections between art in the Museum galleries and their own creative experiences. Visual Thinking Strategies are utilized to develop students’ visual literacy, as well as written and oral communication skills, while encouraging them to explore their own creative voices.
More than 300 works are submitted for adjudication with approximately 80 works exhibited in the Museum. Prizes are awarded in several categories including Best in Show. All works will be on view on the Museum’s Website www.heckscher.org.
Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at The Heckscher Museum is sponsored in part by Inna Gellerman, DDS, Children and Adult Orthodontics. The Museum also receives generous support from the Town of Huntington.
