The Classic Age of Chinese Ceramics: An Exhibition of Song Treasures from the Linyushanren Collection

This spring, Christie’s New York will present The Classic Age of Chinese Ceramics: An Exhibition of Song Treasures from the Linyushanren Collection, a non-selling exhibition of Song dynasty (960-1279) ceramics, following its inaugural tour to Hong Kong last November. Comprising 80 highlights from a comprehensive Japanese private collection of over 200 Song ceramic wares, each of the works featured in this exhibition is an outstanding example of its type. Spanning the full spectrum of forms, glazes and decorative techniques unique to each of the ceramic-producing centers in China from which they originated, this exhibition endeavors to introduce the remarkable diversity and complexity of ceramic wares produced in the Song period in China. Through this non-selling exhibition, Christie’s confirms its commitment to educating the public about this fascinating category.

Small Pleasures: Chinese Miniature Works of Art from an Important Private American Collection

Also on view during Christie’s Asian Art Week in New York is Small Pleasures: Chinese Miniature Works of Art from an Important Private American Collection.  This unique collection of Chinese miniatures takes meticulous detail to new incredible heights.  This exhibition offers a diverse range of over 100 miniature Chinese works of art dating from as early as the Han dynasty (206 BC – AD 220) to the late 19th century, and illustrates the full range of Chinese artistic traditions, including furniture, jade, porcelain and pottery, bronze, painting, and much more. 

Snuff Bottles from the Collection of Emma and Barney Dagan

Snuff Bottles from the Collection of Barney and Emma Dagan will feature 108 snuff bottles collected by Emma and Barney Dagan over a forty-year period. This well-known collection comprises rare and unusual bottles in glass, porcelain, jade, and various other hardstones.  Emma and Barney Dagan were pioneers in the field and began collecting Chinese art in the early 1960s. They quickly acquired a superb collection across various media, most notably in 18th and 19th century Chinese glass, snuff bottles, jades, and works of art.  Emma and Barney sought to acquire only the highest quality and best examples of the type, travelling extensively to acquire rare and unusual examples.  Their collection of snuff bottles is renowned for its diversity and quality and is a testament to the refined and discerning eye of these remarkable collectors.
