Peter Grippe: Prints and Drawings, is on view through Saturday, November 27, at Susan Teller Gallery in New York.
Grippe (1912-2002) was born in Buffalo, NY. He studied at the Albright-Knox Art School and the Art Institue of Buffalo. A member of the American Abstract Artists group in the early 1940s, he studied with Stanley William Hayter at the New York intaglio workshop Atelier 17; he later served as director. In the summer of 1948 he taught sculpture at Black Mountain College, Asheville, NC, and later taught at Pratt Institute and Smith College. He was the first professor of sculpture and graphics at Brandeis University.
In the summer and fall of 2010 the Allentown Art Museum showed Peter Grippe: A Personal Vocabulary. His work is in museum collections throughout the country.
