From Coast to Countryside: Exploring New England
For generations, artists have called New England home, some by virtue of birth, others drawn to the diverse subjects the region has to offer. Whether capturing the power of nature along miles of coastline or the quiet hamlets dotting the countryside, artists living and working in New England from the late nineteenth through the mid-twentieth century were never at a loss for inspiration. Featuring landscapes by Alfred T. Bricher, John J. Enneking, James Jeffrey Grant, Aldro Hibbard, Charles Hopkinson, Frederick Mulhaupt, Aiden Lassell Ripley, Julian Alden Weir and Charles Woodbury, among many others, this exhibition explores the artists' favorite sketching grounds, from the sun-dappled shorelines of Maine, to the remote villages and back roads of Vermont, to the North Shore fishing communities and urban districts of Massachusetts, and everywhere in between. From Coast to Countryside: Exploring New England will be on view October 15th through December 3rd in the gallery and online.
