Exhibition and sale of Monhegan works of art (1859-1960)

Monhegan Island, off the coast of Maine, is a magical setting that has drawn artists for more then 100 years. Gavin Spanierman is presenting a private collection, amassed over 25 years, consisting of more than 50 works of art depicting the island. The earliest known painting of Monhegan, titled "Whitehead Cliffs Monhegan Island," is an 9" x 14" oil which Aaron Draper Shattuck painted in 1858. Among the other artists included in the exhibit are: Frank A. Bicknell (1866-1943), Abraham J. Bogdanove (1886-1946), Isabel Cartwright (1889-1966), Jay Connaway (1893-1970), Sears Gallagher (1869-1955), Rockwell Kent (1882-1971), William Trost Richards (1833-1905), James Gayle Tyler (1855-1931), Mary Stuard Townsend Mason (1886-1984), Lockwood De Forest (1850-1932), and more.
