Andy Warhol - Factory Films
In collaboration, Rebekah Jacob Gallery and the Terrace Theatre present a series of Andy Warhol films from the early 1960’s on November 8, one night only, the Terrace Theatre (1956 Maybank Highway Charleston, SC 29412) will host selected films inspired by the characters that frequented Warhol’s loft studio, which he called “The Factory.” Screening of 3 short films starts at 7PM and ends around 8:30 PM. Andy Warhol’s first experiments in cinema reflect his diversity as an artist. Inspired by the underground films of Jack Smith, Ron Rice, and Taylor Mead, in the 1960s, Warhol made 16mm works without sound and by using a static camera. At the Factory, Warhol created developed a stable of “stars” from the artists, hustlers, drag queens, and socialites who hung out at his loft. “These films from the early 1960s are at times voyeuristic, hilarious, inspired, tedious, and even audacious,” says Rebekah Jacob. Tickets for the Warhol film night are $15.00 each and available immediately through the Terrace website or at its box office (http://www.terracetheater.org). Attendees are encouraged to buy tickets early as seating is limited. In commemoration of the event, limited edition screen prints with a Warhol theme by local artist John Pundt are available for $75 each. Art work may be purchased at the Rebekah Jacob Gallery at 502 King Street or through the gallery’s online SHOP (http://rebekahjacobgallery.bigcartel.com).
