American Renaissance to the Modern Age: A Woman’s Touch in the Visual Arts Symposium
The Columbus Museum will host the biennial Decorative Arts symposia series, “American Renaissance to the Modern Age: A Woman’s Touch in the Visual Arts,” April 6, 2013, at the Columbus Museum. The symposium will bring together speakers Julie Aronson, Curator of American Painting, Sculpture and Drawings at the Cincinnati Art Museum; Joseph Cunningham, Ph.D., Director of American Decorative Art 1900 Foundation; Pat Kirkham, Professor at the Bard Graduate Center: Decorative Arts, Design History, Material Culture, New York; and Sally Main, Senior Curator at the Newcomb Art Gallery at Tulane University. Topics to be discussed at the symposium include the exploration of the depth of women’s influences on the arts with lectures highlighting the impact of Newcomb Pottery, the sculpture of Betsy Potter Vonnoh, the innovative designs of Ray Eames, and the jewelry and metalwork of Marie Zimmerman in the visual arts. Registration fees are $25 for Columbus Museum Members and $35 for non-members and include a boxed lunch.
