The Ferrell Collection of Southern stoneware
Preparations are underway at Wooten and Wooten Auctioneers for their monumental sale of the Ferrell Collection of Southern stoneware on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11am. The collection represents a lifetime of scholarship and connoisseurship in the field of American Southern stoneware, with a focus on nineteenth century Edgefield District of South Carolina ceramics. Highlights of the exemplary collection include a signed and dated twelve gallon jar by the illustrious slave potter, David Drake (“Dave”), several crowning examples of the work of Thomas Chandler, and multiple rare examples of Edgefield, South Carolina stoneware. The pieces being offered fill landmark reference works such as Cinda Baldwin’s Great and Noble Jar and Georgeanna Greer’s American Stonewares. Very rarely does such a comprehensive and historically- important assemblage appear on the market. The catalogue may be viewed online at www.wootenandwooten.com and LiveAuctioneers. Copies of the catalogue are also available for $25 by calling the gallery at 866-570-0144. Preview begins Wednesday, January 22 and continues through Friday, January 24 from 12pm to 7pm each day. The sale begins Saturday, January 25 at 11am, doors open at 9am.
