One of the key art events in the London summer calendar is London Art Week, a week-long celebration of paintings, drawings and sculpture in Mayfair and St James's which attracts collectors and curators from all over the world. London Art Week is the platform that unites Master Drawings & Sculpture Week and Master Paintings Week, bringing together some fifty specialist dealers across the fine art disciplines and three major London auction houses. London Art Week illustrates the extraordinary range and quality of fine art from the 15th to 20th centuries available on the market and strongly underlines the unrivalled connoisseurship and expertise to be found in the city. During London Art Week, special exhibitions, auctions and events will be staged by the participants. The 2014 event will be held from 4 to 11 July, a date that should be in the diaries of collectors, curators and enthusiasts from all corners of the globe. Among the works to be exhibited is a study of an Old Man, painted circa 1615-1618 by Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), at The Weiss Gallery. This vigorous and arresting work is a new discovery and addition to Rubens's oeuvre. Such studies count among his masterpieces and similar examples are to be found in the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica di Palazzo Corsini, Rome, the State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg, and the Hunterian Art Gallery, University of Glasgow. The asking price is £1.5 million.
