The past displays have been superb, achieving brisk sales and garnering strong local reviews; and the folks at Reaves gallery promise that this year’s exhibition will be no different, offering yet another stunning collection of prime Texas work! Texas Aesthetic VII features the gallery’s stable of Contemporary Texas Regionalists, a group of sixteen of the state’s most prominent artists hailing from parts all across Texas. While featuring contemporary works the Texas Aesthetic actually constitutes a “legacy” exhibition, celebrating past traditions of Texas landscape painting by showcasing some of the most accomplished contemporary artists who carry on these traditions today. Reaves explains that all of the artists included paint either a style and subject matter directly inspired by earlier Texas masters who were at work in the early decades of the twentieth century, a time during which images of our state were just being captured on canvas.” The exhibition offers a pleasing opportunity to reflect upon the unique compositional elements and painterly qualities which continue to define “Texas” in art. From the paintings selected, it is readily apparent that the works are worthy of the attention of serious Texas collectors and that the selected artists are indeed a “cut above”. Texas art aficionados will definitely connect with the works in this show, and will take heart in the fact that these artists who have chosen to devote their considerable talents to the continued task of capturing today’s Lone Star scene.
