Arcadia Contemporary is proud to present Matthew Cornell’s 2nd exhibition of cinematic, and flawlessly executed, small-scale oil paintings. Each location depicted in this body of work has had a personal and profound meaning to the artist. “These paintings are a more personal extension of the neighborhoods and homes that I have been depicting for the past few years”, the artist says. “This change was very much influenced by the recent deaths of my parents. The works include all the homes in my life I have lived in and the childhood homes of my parents. I felt the need to reconnect with my past, to find these sacred spaces, to search them out, and to hopefully reconcile what it is to “belong.” The exhibition titled “Pilgrimage” will premiere fourteen oil paintings that range in size from 8 x 8 to 25 x 27 inches. Each work is the result of countless hours and dozens of layers of paint which, when combined with the artist’s signature hyper-realist style, are often mistaken for photographs. A graduate of California State University in Long Beach. Matthew Cornell’s paintings have been exhibited at the Naples Museum of Art in Naples Florida, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art in Fort Wayne Indiana, The Long Beach Museum of Art in Long Beach California, and the Dunedin Fine Art Center in Dunedin Florida.
