Harriette Joffe: from the "Riversong" series

Harriette Joffe: New Works

Davenport & Shapiro Fine Art / December 1, 2011 - January 29, 2012 / East Hampton, New York

Davenport & Shapiro will present new works by acclaimed New York School painter Harriette Joffe at its gallery in East Hampton. Joffe’s career spans the post-World War II Abstract Expressionist movement to the present. She was embraced by the first generation of AbEx painters as a student, friend and colleague and has exhibited with many of them. She has exhibited nationally in galleries and museums, showing alongside artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Eric Fischel, Linda Benglis, April Gornick, Larry Rivers, and Jackie Windsor. Phyllis Braff, writing in the New York Times, characterized Joffe’s work as “a tumultuous rush of loose lines… high pitched fiery colors that give the feel of heat and pressure.” Another critic has said that Joffe returns the form to woman which de Kooning took away. Davenport & Shapiro will also present a career retrospective of this artist Spring 2012.
