Americana Takes Flight at the MET

On May 19th the Metropolitan Museum of Art's newly renovated American Wing opened to visitors. After two years of construction, a flurry of fanfare marked the celebratory opening, starting with a ribbon cutting-ceremony featuring First Lady Michelle Obama. Besides a pleasing aesthetic, the re-do affords 30 percent more space to exhibit the Met's American fine and decorative arts collections as well as period rooms representing design from 1680 to 1914, the Pilgrim Century to modern master architect Frank Lloyd Wright's era.
