Much-lauded openings of refurbished American wings at both the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Nelson-Atkins Museum in recent weeks are followed by a West Coast unveiling to be reckonend with. The Huntington Library and Art Gallery in San Marino, Calif., will reveal its freshly made-over American Art Galleries on May 30th. Housed in a 16,000-sq.foot exhibition space, double its original size, American art on view will include classics by Copley, Cassatt, and Sargent as well as a newly acquired Thomas Hart Benton. Funding came in part from a $1 million gift from actor-writer Steve Martin.
