Alfred Sisley, The Bridge at Moret on an April Morning, 1888, a promised gift to the North Carolina Museum of Art.

North Carolina Museum of Art has been promised works by Alfred Sisley, Maurice de Vlaminck, Emil Nolde, and Pablo Picasso from the collection of hedge fund pioneer Julian Robertson and his wife, Josie, of New York City. The four paintings will be displayed in the Raleigh museum's new gallery opening in April.

Picasso's Seated Woman, Red and Yellow Background, 1952, depicts the artist's soon-to-be ex-mistress Françoise Gilot. German expressionist Nolde's work is a seascape with a blood-red sky, painting during WWI. The tranquil impressionist scene of 1888 by Sisley is a striking contrast to de Vlaminck's vibrant, energetic The Bridge at Poissy painted in 1905.

Julian Robertson's Tiger Management Corp. founded one of the earliest hedge funds on the market in 1980. Forbes magazine listed his net worth at $2.2 billion in Sept. 2009.
