U.K. puts export ban on Raphael drawing

A Raphael drawing that fetched £29 million, a world record price for an Old Master drawing at auction, has been barred from export by Britain's Culture Minister. A committee determined the work is of outstanding aesthetic merit. The temporary ban will allow time to try to raise funds to keep it in the country.
Sold at Christie's in London in December, "Head of a Muse" is a study for a figure in Parnassus, one Raphael's most celebrated frescoes in the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican, commissioned by Pope Julius II and executed between 1508 and 1511.
