Enthusiasm for Americana at TAAS

From William and Mary gate-leg tables to Art Deco silver, The American Antiques Show saw some swift sales last January, but nothing was selling like hotcakes, according to Maine Antique Digest's recap of the Americana Week event in New York.
"It is a good time for savvy money to be in the marketplace," said John Molloy, a specialist in American Indian arts.
Folk art sales were one stand-out. Exhibitor Allan Katz reported a number of big-ticket sales including a wooden cow weathervane ($145,000) and a peacock sculpture ($165,000).
Other categories saw good interest, too, including American "brown furntiure," with dealers Gary Sullivan and Peter Eaton both selling at least 10 pieces---from tall-case clocks to a Queen Anne armchair.
The show is a benefit for the American Folk art Museum, which is in the process of financial restructuring.
