Collectible fun: A Post-War Steiff rabbit

For adorning Easter dinner tables, an 18-centimeter maize mohair hare, only produced in 1949 and one of the very first Steiff items produced after the Giengen factory reopened after the Second World War, is an affordable, but rare-to-market decorative piece.
Steiff rabbits in very good to excellent condition from the later 1940s and early 1950s, with the rare and unusual blank button, may bring upwards of $300.
Germany's Steiff brand may be stronger in a "bear market." Teddy bears, that is. Early 20th-century mohair bears can reach into the tens of thousands of dollars at auction. "Teddy Girl," a cinnamon Steiff bear, raised £110,000 in 1994.
