The making of a New York treasure house

Among the sumptuous personal art galleries built in Gilded Age New York, tycoon Henry Clay Frick's Upper East Side mansion remains today as a temple of high art. Converted from a private home to a public museum after his death in 1931, the Frick's main gallery alone displays Rembrandt, El Greco, Veronese and other masters in close proximity.
On June 22 the Frick Collection will open an exhibition of original drawings and early photographs documenting the transformation of the house into a museum.
