Adobe Museum of Digital Media is a new, all-digital museum showcasing digital art and media. A VIP launch party held in New York at The Standard Hotel on Oct. 6 unveiled the inaugural exhibition "Valley" by American artist Tony Oursler which was guest curated by Bard College’s Tom Eccles.
"The digital venue invites visitors to thoroughly explore the interactivity, lack of physical boundaries, and 24/7 availability of the online world," writes Ann Lewnes on Adobe's blog.
The striking museum building exists only online although it could be built. The exhibition space in the atrium would measure 57,680 sq. meters with 50-story towers weaving above it.
Adobe developed the concept with Goodby, Silverstein and Partners under the leadership of Rich Silverstein; Italian architect Filippo Innocenti; and unit9, a London-based design firm, led by Piero Frescobaldi.
With the rise in mobile apps allowing visitors to explore museum collections and browse art auctions, the Adobe project may signal a next level of online experience.
