Each year the Armory Show attracts 60,000 visitors to both ogle and buy modern masters and contemporary art. Combined with other art shows across Manhattan, the Armory week should generate more than $40 million in economic activity in the city, according to Mayor Bloomberg's office.
The Wall Street Journal blog has put together a guide to this year's Armory show which features highlights from the 274 contemporary and modern art galleries at Piers 92 and 94 in New York.
Among the must-see works of art: "Red Lenin" by Andy Warhol at Hollis Taggart Galleries; Robert de Niro Sr. oils at DC Moore Gallery, and a late 1950s Joan Mitchell abstraction, priced at $4.6 million at Lennon Weinberg, inc.
The Armory Show runs March 3-6, Piers 92 and 94.
Also not to miss is the ADAA: The Art Show from March 2 to 6 at the Park Avenue Armory. Ameringer|McEnery|Yohe will bring a collection of works by Robert Motherwell, and Marian Goodman Gallery is mounting a remarkable solo show of Gabriel Orozco.
