Gagosian To Roll Out Another Picasso Blockbuster
- February 25, 2012 18:11
At times controversial but perennially uber-successful art gallery owner Larry Gagosian continues to show his clout with high sales.
The world's biggest fine art dealer and its best-selling artist are a winning combination, evidenced by Gagosian's series of three popular Picasso shows that drew a total of 260,000 visitors to view about 300 artworks.
In fall 2011, he sold Pablo Picasso’s “Naked Man” for $23 million, a record for the artist's late work from the 1960s-70s.
While Damien Hirst is currently in the limelight at some of the Gagosian galleries, which reside in 11 locations spanning the globe from Beverly Hills to Hong Kong, the ubiquitous Picasso, and his love life, are due to make their return.
Beginning on April 30, 2012, works from Picasso’s post-World War II period, created in Vallauris and during his romance with Francoise Gilot, will make up the fourth Picasso exhibition at Gagosian's galleries in New York and London, Bloomberg Pursuits reports in its premier issue.
Now in her 90s, Gilot is collaborating on the exhibition, along with the artist's noted biographer and friend, John Richardson.
