Stolen Cezanne Recovered in Serbia

It was just recently that a watercolor study by French Post-Impressionist Paul Cézanne was rediscovered as part of the estate of Texas resident Dr. Heinz F. Eichenwald, a prominent collector who died in September. Now another Cézanne has come to light, this time in a raid by Serbian and Swiss police.
The artwork, entitled “The Boy in the Red Vest," circa 1888, was one of four paintings stolen at gunpoint from a Swiss art gallery in 2008.
Two of the four thieved canvasses were recovered almost immediately and a painting by Impressionist Edgar Degas was returned about a year later. However, the Cézanne had remained missing
Four men were arrested for the robbery in raids in the Serbian capital of Belgrade and the central city of Cacak.
Art experts believe the thieves capitalized on the minimal security at the Emil Georg Buehrle gallery in Zurich, but knew little about the paintings they stole or how difficult the famed artworks would be to sell.
The Cézanne is estimated to be worth at least $108 million.
